It’s no secret that First Lady, Michelle Obama, is one of my heroes and that her passion to reverse childhood obesity and create opportunities for families to become healthier has inspired me to move KidTribe’s mission into an even higher gear.
Because she approaches this issue from a loving and concerned mom’s point of view, Let’s Move! has expanded by leaps and bounds with millions of people from all backgrounds supporting the cause, stepping up for the children, and even changing their own unhealthy habits. It’s pretty remarkable to be able to partner with such an organization.
This week, she announced commitments from major food retailers to open or expand over 1,500 stores to help provide healthy and affordable food to some of the over 23 million Americans – including 6.5 million children who don’t have easy access to fresh, nutritious food. Please check out the video of her announcement (Michelle starts speaking at about 19:30).
She says, “We needed to confront this problem head on. Because we can give people all of the information and advice in the world about healthy eating and exercise. We can talk all we want about calorie counts and recipes and how to serve balanced meals. But if parents can’t buy the food they need to prepare those meals, if their only options for groceries are in the corner gas station or the local minimart, then all that is just talk. It’s all just talk, and that is not what “Let’s Move” is about.”
Direct from Let’s Move!, here are some quick lil’ tidbits of information to help you to jump-start your family to a happier, healthier future:
